Our 72 280E has decided not to start-due to ill health it hasn't been driven very much in last 6 months though started and driven in and out of garage.
Yesterday took it out of garage and when it came to restart a few hours later it gave on click and no go!!
Checked basics-battery fine- thought it might be starter jammed but difficult to check being auto. Rocked it in park and there was click and ignition lights.
One turn and nothing-no ignition or even hand brake light but mainlights working.
Any suggestions bearing in mind I can't get underneath.
Does the power drop while attempting to start ?
Does it smell "gasy", meaning possible flooding ??
Are the spark-plugs dry or wet ?
Do you have a timing-device, meaning that you can check the advance on the ignition, and thus checking that ALL spark-plugs actually ignite. _________________ Mercedes W115 200 1973

Not really- battery which is only 12 months old and sealed unit shows good charge but not 100%.
Get flicker of dash lights when moving solenoid leads but now headlights are very dim so probably live side from battery problem-maybe battery has fault. Have put it on trickle charger and will try with booster later.
Thanks for your advice.
Runs like a bird- it was less than 12 months old Delkor calcium battery.
Have now found out they are not designed for older style electrical systems and also unsuccessful in Landcruisers as they don't like vibration.
back to conventional lead acid battery.
